God’s Word for Today: October 16

John 13:1 to John 14:31

The night before his death, Jesus commanded his disciples to serve one another. He reminded them that he was the only access to God. Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would come to live in Christians and would provide them with the strength to obey and love God in this world.

How is John’s gospel unique? It records more about the ministry of Jesus in Jerusalem and Judea than Matthew, Mark, or Luke—but it doesn’t narrate his birth, temptation, parables, or ascension. John also includes many of Christ’s lessons that are not in the other three gospels.

Today, ask God for the Holy Spirit’s help to be an agent of peace between conflicting family members, friends, or co-workers.
