Grace Overcomes

Grace Overcomes

I begged the Lord three times to take it away from me. But he told me: “My kindness is all you need. My power is strongest when you are weak.” So I will brag even more about my weaknesses in order that Christ’s power will live in me.
2 Corinthians 12:8-9

Grace overcomes.

On this side of heaven, we may never know what afflicted Paul. Was it chronic health problems, a weakness for specific sins, or opposition from the principalities currently in power? Whatever the thorn, he begged God to remove it. But the Lord declined.

God’s “grace” or “kindness” is the blessing he gives unworthy people. It propels his steps toward you from beginning to end. The glory God the Father manifests in Jesus is filled with kindness and truth (John 1:14). Grace saves you from sin through faith and raises you to life in heaven with Christ (Ephesians 2:5-8). It gives you the confidence to approach God, stand in his favor, and enjoy the gift of his Spirit’s presence (Romans 5:1-5). His kindness trains you to say “no” to worldly desires and “yes” to godly life (Titus 2:11-12). And it provides the power you need when discouragement plagues you, just like it did for Paul. Grace is a pristine blessing that adores you at your worst and bears your burdens when you are weak.

Ask the Lord for grace in any shape. Accept it even when it’s not what you requested. When you need it most, God’s kindness is strongest.
